Who is the Social Media King of the World?

Facebook and Twitter may sit atop the social networking hill in the United States, but QQ, a social networking site predominately popular in China, reigns supreme in the world. As the largest online social networking site in the world, QQ has 300 million users, with its largest base in China. It is much more difficult to start a profile than with other social media, due to China’s requirements that all computers have a screening software.
It is true to say the Facebook has “colonized” Europe and Western culture, and is the most popular in the West. Facebook just became more search engine optimization friendly, with vanity URLs that allows people and brands to customize their web address. Twitter still reigns popular with the older demographic, and therefore hasn’t been adopted by the majority of the millennials. This could mean Twitter hasn’t hit its tipping point. The lone social cowboy, MySpace, has become irrelevant anywhere in the world but Guam.
